Christmas Half Marathon

You read that right—our local running club held a Christmas Marathon event, and I took on the half marathon! I couldn’t have picked a tougher day, though. It snowed heavily last night, leaving the streets buried under soft, uneven piles of snow. Running through that felt like a full-body workout, engaging tiny muscles (and my hip flexors) I didn’t even know existed.

Needless to say, it wasn’t an easy race. With temperatures around -10°C, a biting northern wind, and all that snow, every step was a challenge. But I finished! My time wasn’t anything extraordinary, but it was actually better than my first-ever half marathons, which feels like a huge accomplishment given today’s conditions.

Despite the tough run, the event itself was so much fun. The race center was set up at a spa, and let me tell you, the sauna and jacuzzi felt like heaven after braving the cold. I even convinced a couple of friends to join me on the water slide, though our tired legs made climbing up the stairs a questionable decision. Still, we had a great laugh!

After swimming, we enjoyed a Christmas lunch. In addition of tasting amazing and also feeling revitalizing after the big effort, it also marked my first Christmas meal of the season, so I can officially say the festivities have begun!

The rest of my day has been spent on the couch, sore and exhausted, but also incredibly happy. Since I hadn’t run for a week, it felt great to use all that pent-up energy.

My new running jacket made its debut today!
After running and swimming it was time for some Christmas food.
There was a large, stunning moon out tonight. I wish the photograph showed it better.
