Preparing for the Christmas RPG Game

I don’t know if it was a brilliant idea or the biggest mistake of our lives to decide to try a pen and paper RPG with my family this Christmas. But this kind of deal was made and now it is time to carry the consequences.

We decided to follow the rules of the Finnish version of Dungeons and Dragons: Legendoja ja Lohikäärmeitä. My brother promised to act as the game master, so my own task is clear: I need to create a character.

I have played some RPG games before so I know already a bit what kind of character I want to play. My biggest favourite of a classes to play has always been rogues and thieves; something about being able to open all the doors and boxes has just appealed to me since I was a child.

Characters are created on a specific character creation form. This form is filled by combining your selections of character features, but also using dices to determine the values of the features used in the actual game, for example in the battle or on a negotiation situation.

I am not boring you by going through it detailed way, but I though it would be nice to create a picture of the character. Because I have absolutely zero skills to arts, I am using AI to make a visualization of my character.

Here she is! Isn’t she great?

My brother luckily helped with the character creation, because I didn’t manage to finish the RPG rulebook as quickly as I had hoped. Filling in the form included all kinds of numbers determined by throwing dice, so it was good to have help. The character backstory was also randomly generated, and I’m a bit worried: my character has a tendency to spend too much money and also has an ill family member who needs it! I need to be constantly looting to survive! But we will see on Christmas Eve what will happen!
